I then heard a fire destroyed the KBFH vaults and all multi-track tapes were lost. So the only remaining things would be radio shows sent to FM for airplay, and also these few reels mentioned thank christ. I need confirmation information concerning the fire. I collect this series of radio shows and would like to write a book about the Biscuit someday.
Well, a friend gave me his unremastered Castles of MOR and Paranoid and honestly, I’m shocked. They are goddamn awful! Muddy as hell and probably taken from 5th generation copies. How can you, guys, enjoy them is beyond my understanding. I know most folks here don’t like bright CDs but these are criminally dull, there are no highs at all. They sound like someone forgot to swith Dolby off! Looks like Castle Gucci Shoes will do for me for this ones at least…
What are the catalog numbers? There is still question here as to whether different pressings are different. The ones people are digging here are the ones that are “NELCD….”
I’m not nuts about the early pressing of Master, but Paranoid kicks ***. It will take you a while to get used to hearing it. The Castle remaster is pretty similar to the early Castle, actually. That album should sound super bass heavy. But remember, your ears are used to those Rhino versions with everything jacked up. The Rhino is bassy as hell from what I recall, but it probably had the midrange jacked up as well, so maybe that’s what you’re missing? The old Gucci Sneakers issue sounds like a treble-increased mess after your foot get used to the old Castle.
Then there is the Castle mini that came in the boxset, which oddly, is different and perhaps even better than the regular remastered issue.
Good luck but don’t go back to Black Box!!
